Between 1988 and 1990 the Broward Sheriff’s Office decided to manufacture and sell crack cocaine. They didn’t do it to fatten their wallets, they did it to secure arrests and convictions. Essentially the Broward Sheriff’s Office was taking legally seized powder cocaine and using their chemists to manufacture said cocaine into crack rocks. That was a BIG No-No. The Sheriff’s Office would then turn around and use covert police tactics to sell the unlawfully manufactured crack rocks within the confines of Broward County. Several people were arrested and caught up in this dangerous spider web. This led to prison sentences and other penalties including criminal convictions.

Broward County Drug Crime Convictions Revisited
Broward State Attorney Harold Pryor has decided to try and right past wrongs. These past wrongs happened decades before he came into office. Despite that, he is doing his part to try and vacate past drug crime convictions that may have slipped through the crack (pun intended) over the years.
